Physical Disabilities At Better at Home, we believe that having specialised care needs should not hinder individuals from fully embracing life's opportunities. Our dedicated team of carers provides support to adults, children, and young people with physical disabilities, enabling them to lead independent and active lives within their homes. We collaborate closely with individuals and their families to develop personalised care plans that empower them to live life on their own terms. Our goal is to encourage individuals to make decisions regarding their care, pursue activities of their choosing, and experience limitations only to the extent of their non-disabled peers. For our younger service users, we strive to provide the best start in life, offering a childhood filled with fun and activity.
“My caregiver mantra is to remember: the only control you have is over the changes you choose to make.” – Nancy L. Kriseman
Learning Disabilities At Better at Home, we prioritise the person over the disability. Our aim is to assist individuals in reaching their full potential and empower them to make as many decisions as possible regarding their care. Additionally, we ensure that any decisions made on behalf of individuals who lack capacity are made with their best interests in mind. Our caregivers undergo specialised training to support individuals who may exhibit challenging behaviours. We prioritise the rights, dignity, and safety of our clients above all else. Our overarching goal is to enhance independence, whether by providing sensory stimulation for those with profound disabilities or assisting young adults in setting up their own homes. Each individual receives personalised care focused on achievable goals and supporting their aspirations. At Better at Home, we strive to build relationships based on trust and companionship, fostering a supportive environment where individuals feel valued and empowered.
Mobility Support At Better at Home, we understand the importance of conducting a thorough mobility assessment for individuals in need of assistance with transfers or walking. This assessment ensures that appropriate handling and transfer decisions are made, reducing the risk of falls and other adverse outcomes associated with immobility. Based on the individual's mobility assessment, we develop a personalised mobility plan that emphasises safe handling techniques and ensures the presence of an adequate number of caregivers using the correct equipment. Our caregivers are trained to use a variety of mobility equipment, including standing and ceiling hoists, sliding sheets, and bath lifts. Each caregiver holds a current patient moving and handling certificate and receives training on new hoisting and transfer equipment as needed. Safety is our top priority, and we take skin care seriously as part of our mobility care approach. Our caregivers are trained to recognise signs of pressure sores or friction burns resulting from incorrect transfers. They promptly communicate any concerns to supervisors and coordinators for follow-up action, which may include reassessing transfers or coordinating with healthcare professionals such as occupational therapists or public health nurses to address specific needs, such as wheelchair adjustments or the provision of an air mattress.
Support for Children with Physical and Learning Disabilities At Better at Home, we are dedicated to providing high-quality, person-centred care to children with physical and intellectual disabilities, whether in their home or within a community residential setting. We begin by conducting a comprehensive assessment to tailor our services to the unique needs of each child. This assessment allows our case manager to identify the child's abilities and areas where they may require support. We take a holistic approach, involving input from you, your child, and any key workers involved. All activities are carefully risk assessed to ensure the safety of your child. Your assigned case manager will then develop a personalised care plan, guiding our team to provide the best possible support for your child. We collaborate with local social care, education, and other key workers to ensure that each child receives positive, healthy outcomes that address all of their needs. Our staff members possess a diverse range of experience and qualifications, including: - Social Care Workers - Intellectual Disabilities Nurses - Health Care Assistants
