Mobility Support At Better at Home, we understand the importance of conducting a thorough mobility assessment for individuals in need of assistance with transfers or walking. This assessment ensures that appropriate handling and transfer decisions are made, reducing the risk of falls and other adverse outcomes associated with immobility.
Based on the individual's mobility assessment, we develop a personalised mobility plan that emphasises safe handling techniques and ensures the presence of an adequate number of caregivers using the correct equipment. Our caregivers are trained to use a variety of mobility equipment, including standing and ceiling hoists, sliding sheets, and bath lifts. Each caregiver holds a current patient moving and handling certificate and receives training on new hoisting and transfer equipment as needed.
Safety is our top priority, and we take skin care seriously as part of our mobility care approach. Our caregivers are trained to recognise signs of pressure sores or friction burns resulting from incorrect transfers. They promptly communicate any concerns to supervisors and coordinators for follow-up action, which may include reassessing transfers or coordinating with healthcare professionals such as occupational therapists or public health nurses to address specific needs, such as wheelchair adjustments or the provision of an air mattress.
